Output (GVA)

The marine sector contributed £336m (GVA) to the Somerset economy in 2016. The represents 3% of total economic output for the county. Incidentally, 3% of national economic output is accounted for by the same activities. The biggest contributions by district are from South Somerset (£127m) and Taunton Deane (£106m).

Employment (FTE)

5,495 full-time equivalent (FTE) jobs were supported by the Marine sector in Somerset in 2016, roughly 2.4% of all employment in the county. As with GVA output, the majority of this employment is found in South Somerset (2,170) and Taunton Deane (1,720).

Productivity (GVA/FTE)

Measured as GVA per FTE job, productivity in the Marine sector stood at £61,140 in Somerset in 2016, compared to a national average of £53,730.
