Output (GVA)

The marine sector contributed nearly £229m (GVA) to the Somerset economy in 2020. The represents 2.1% of total economic output for the county compared to 2.8% of national economic output is accounted for by the same activities. The biggest contributions by district are from South Somerset (£97m) and Somerset West and Taunton (£77m).

Employment (FTE)

5,155 full-time equivalent (FTE) jobs were supported by the Marine sector in Somerset in 2020, roughly 2.3% of all employment in the county. As with GVA output, the majority of this employment is found in Somerset West and Taunton (2,085) and South Somerset (1,738).

Productivity (GVA/FTE)

Measured as GVA per FTE job, productivity in the Marine sector stood at £44,430 in Somerset in 2020, compared to a national average of £53,550.
