Somerset’s population is growing steadily (as a result of inward migration) and at a slightly faster rate than is the case nationally, a trend which is set to continue over the coming years. So too is the long-running trend towards an older population. Somerset’s population is also distinctly more rural (and coastal) based than average, which can be a strength as well as a challenge.
