Employment by Standard Occupational Classification (SOC 2010)

The Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) system is used to classify workers by their occupations. Jobs are classified by their skill level and content.

The bar charts above show the percentage of people employed by the Standard Occupational Classification 2010.

Within Somerset, more people are employed Professional Occupations (15.3%) than any other occupational group. The same is true regionally and nationally, but with an even higher percentage employed in this occupational group nationally.

At the district level, there are notable differences though. In South Somerset and Sedgemoor, Skilled Trades account for the largest share of employment, whilst in Somerset West and Taunton associate professional and technical occupations employ the most.  Mendip has the largest employment in professional occupations.
